Confidentiality
All clients can rest assured that the therapist holds the utmost respect to the clients right to confidentiality and will ensure that this trust is maintained and upheld at all times. Confidentiality is an essential part of therapy and measures have been installed to ensure the client’s privacy is protected at all times. See more on this in Confidentiality and Record Keeping section below.
There are three exceptions to the rule of confidentiality. The first two are law enforced and beyond control of the therapist:
By law as a healthcare practitioner, the therapist has a Duty of Care as a Mandatory Reporter, which means that if the client is at risk of self-harm, or at risk of harming another, the therapist is required by law to report the situation to the appropriate authority.
If the client is subject to civil or criminal court proceedings where session information needs to be disclosed, then the therapist may be required to release confidential client information (such as client notes or content of therapeutic sessions) if there is a court order to do so. It is advised that if the client is involved in civil or criminal court proceedings, this scenario is disclosed to the therapist before sessions occur.
If the client requests for the therapist to share something with a third party, such as a GP. In this case, a consent form will be used specifying the context of information to be shared and this will be approved and signed by the client before the information is shared.

Record Keeping
Confidentiality is an essential part of all psychotherapy and hypnotherapy. Ripples Hypnotherapy holds all volunteered personal contact details securely in line with the Code of Ethics of the AHA. All information recorded and held is solely for the purpose of maintaining effective therapeutic treatment.
How is it stored?
Data held electronically is stored digitally in a password protected account and behind an 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) security wall. Your records are held for as long as is necessary for the purpose for which they were collected. Clients have the 'right to be forgotten' and within a month of receiving a written request all their records will be erased.
Client forms and session notes
Information from your Client Intake Form is kept to access emergency contact information, if needed, on a cloud server with 2FA applied. Session notes are also stored here, acting as an 'aide memoire' so that the therapist can review the course of your therapy as time progresses. Ripples Hypnotherapy also records the date of sessions you have and the payments you make for business purposes.
Who is it shared with?
All information is confidential, unless the client and therapist agree to discuss something with a third party such as your GP or other practitioner you wish to work with. In this case, a consent form will be used.
